To involve children in the protection of the environment, the Katingan Mentaya Project runs an environmental activities program at primary schools in and around the project area.
The Katingan Mentaya Project is committed to making a difference. The project believes that creating worldwide change isn’t done by just one person, but it has to involve everyone, including the younger generation. Preparing them to be good environmental citizens is some of the most important work any of us can do. By teaching children that the physical environment is fragile and indispensable, we can begin fixing the problems that threaten our planet.
To do this, the Katingan Mentaya Project organizes environmental activities for students, throughout 2019, as a fun way to promote and increase student engagement in learning how to care for the planet. Through the activities, students learn about waste separation, how to recycle and reuse waste, combating river pollution, and planting trees. The students also learn about the importance of washing their hands with soap and nourishing their bodies with healthy foods.
These activities are organized for several primary schools around Pulau Hanaut and Telaga villages and will mainly focus on educating school children on hygiene and gaining awareness regarding their school environment.
