Baun Bango Village held training in using drones for their community-based fire fighters.

Baun Bango Village held training in using drones for their community-based fire fighters to monitor agricultural land, plantations and forest areas that are prone to fire during dry season. "Community-based fire fighters of Baun Bango Village received the training for three days, apart from technical training in using drones, the team also received training in GPS operation," said Acting Head of Baun Bango Village, Saiful Ahmad.

By having the ability to operate drones and GPS, the team will be able to immediately find out any hot spots position more accurately and precisely. Compared to other technologies for preventing forest and land fires, drone has advantages such as low cost and easy to operate, thus monitoring can be carried out more routinely. Moreover, in monitoring forest and land fires, drone flies at fairly low altitude and under the cloud, thus the result obtained will not be hindered by cloud condition and monitoring can be carried out throughout the year.

"We cooperate and bring in instructor from Katingan Mentaya Project," added Saiful. He hopes that this training activity will be able to help ease the task of community-based fire fighters in the field. Katingan Mentaya Project Social Management Specialist, Wardoyo, explained that they were acting as resource person to increase the participants capacity in using and operating drones correctly and in accordance with procedures. "We trained the participants using Mavic Zoom 2 Drone and SJRC-F11 Drone," Wardoyo explained.

He stated that the purpose of this activity was for participants to have the basic ability to operate drones in the assignment of monitoring early detection as effort to control forest and land fires, conducting air patrols and other activities that require airborne documentation in the village administration area. "We also teach the knowledge how to maintain the drone to be always in good condition and last a long time," he concluded.
