Katingan Mentaya Project, as a company that has consecutively cooperated and collaborated well with communities within and around the project area, feels obliged to assist local government in conducting counseling for people at risk to being exposed by such forest fires.

The counselings are conducted as a preventive measure at public schools around the project area, as children and adolescents are among the most vulnerable groups of people who are at risk of being affected by such disaster. Katingan Mentaya Project would contact the schools before each visitation and the counseling is done before the events of a forest fire. Other than socialization, the counseling also provides face masks for students and posters on the health problems of smog around the school.

The vulnerability of school children and adolescent’s is mainly triggered by a limited understanding and awareness of forest fires, which result in a lack of preparedness in dealing with the disaster and its effects. Katingan Mentaya Project will continue to protect and ensure the safety of local communities within and around the project area. “With this socialization, we want young generations to also take part in recording the potential for fires in their area," disclosed KMP Public Health Specialist ,Bellini Mangunsong.
