To help farmers make their work more effective and efficient when clearing agricultural land without burning and without chemical, Katingan Mentaya Project lent Hand Tractor.
With the Hand Tractor, farmers are expected to be able to cultivate their land faster, as using the manual method involving a number of people will take several days.
"With this agricultural tool, we hope to promote more advanced, independent and modern agriculture and optimally beneficial to farmers," said Community Development Manager of Katingan Mentaya Project, Yusef F Hadiwinata. He explained, this support aims to facilitate the farmers participating in clearing land without burning and without chemical which is one of the Katingan Mentaya Project’s programs.

"All farmers can borrow this hand tractor with certain conditions, hoping that the borrowed agricultural tools are always in good condition and ready to be used alternately," explained Yusef. "The most important thing is that farmers can follow the established procedures and rules, this will also give farmers who have never used it experience on how to use hand tractor," he added. So far, many farmers are not familiar with operating such agricultural tool, so Katingan Mentaya Project also invites farmers who can use it to provide training.
"We provide incentives for our trainers to conduct this training. We use 3 types of agricultural tools, namely Hand Tractor Quick Zena Rotary, Hand Tractor Quick G.1000 Boxer, and Steel Claw Cultivator which is able to directly make beds," explained Yusef. These three types of agricultural tools are in accordance with the farmers suggestions and considered suitable for the conditions of land around the Katingan Mentaya Project (KMP) concession area.
"We placed 4 units of Hand Tractor and 3 units of Steel Claw Cultivator in project basecamp located in Hanaut Island District, Seranau District and Mendawai District and we will help with the tools mobilization," he added. "The administrators are the farmers themselves, but still accompanied by the project, we are always ready to facilitate in case of any obstacles, the important thing is that the farmers are really committed to running their business, by running intensive agriculture there will be continuity of agricultural products which indirectly can increase their family income," said Yusef.
Meanwhile, Wahid (48), a farmer from Babirah Village who is also a hand tractor instructor admitted that he was greatly helped by the procurement of this agricultural tools. "We would like to thank the project for their concern by providing all these facilities to farmers," said Wahid.
