Katingan Mentaya Project distributes N95 masks to communities around the project.
Throughout August-September 2019, smog pollution had returned and covered Kotawaringin Timur and Katingan Regency. The pungent scent of the bright flame from the peat forest fires was very much felt within every intake of breath. Various efforts have been made by Katingan Mentaya Project to reduce the number of victims as soon as possible, including socialization on peat forest fire prevention at schools and villages since before the dry season. The project is also active in health promotion through schools, Integrated Healthcare Centers (Posyandu), and the distribution of posters on the prevention and first aid help for Acute Respiratory Infections, spread throughout villages and posted in strategic places.

To increse the community’s breathing quality, Katingan Mentaya Project distributed hundreds of free masks to schools and the community.
Because of the high concentration of smog pollution in several areas, the masks that were distributed were not ordinary masks. Instead, they were N95 masks, or anti- pollution respirator masks, that can filter out pollutants and fine particles. "As we all know, smog is bad for our health and can increase serious health risks to our respiratory system,” explained Wimpi Aries, KMP HSE Officer. "In order to maintain health, the public is advised to wear N95 masks that are able to filter up to 95% of fine particles by up to 95%," he continued, "KMP also provides small oxygen cylinders at health posts in the East for our field employees and members of the community that are in need"
