Engaged in ecosystem restoration and environmental services, human resources are one of the key assets of Katingan Mentaya Project.
Therefore, the considerations and policies adopted thus far have always placed human and community factors as top priority. One of them is in providing scholarships for children of Katingan Mentaya Project employees. Planned since November 2018, the first batch of scholarships was awarded in December 2019.
"We are aware of the important roles employees have in building and contributing to our project to this point. Therefore it is also important to keep employees’ moral high to carry out their work. We hope this scholarship can be one of its catalyst,” explained Catur Nugroho, Katingan Mentaya Project’s Human Resources Manager.
This scholarship is awarded to elementary, junior high, and high school students and until December 2019 has been given to seven children of Katingan Mentaya Project employees. In its first batch the quota for scholarship recipients is one child at the elementary level, two children at the junior high level, and four children at the high school level with the amount of scholarship assistance varying depending on the level. The selection process is carried out through minimum grade qualifications in Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Bahasa Indonesia.

For the employees, this scholarship is considered as a form of appreciation for their contributions thus far. "When I heard of news about the scholarship, I was very happy. The existence of this program has really helped me in providing for my children’s education and has also motivated me in work," Noerman admitted, one of the employees whose children were chosen as scholarship recipients. He currently works in Protection and Monitoring, in the Forest Protection and Prevention Department.
Responding to the positive reactions, Katingan Mentaya Project is committed to continue the scholarship program in the following years. "The plan will be to increase the quota for the number of scholarship recipients. Because it has been proven that this program is effective in motivating employees. Even now, many employees have come forth and ask about the scholarships while helping their children prepare for the selection," explained Catur.
The second batch of Katingan Mentaya Scholarship will be announced soon.
