In order to improve public wellbeing and education, KMP has teamed with villagers of Terantang village to facilitate the renovation and expansion of local religious education centre.

Nurul Takwa Al-Qur’an education centre is a local learning centre for religious studies located in Terantang Village. The education centre is open daily for students of ages 6 to 11 to have access for affordable yet high quality education on Islamic faith, including prayer studies, Qur’an reciting, and many others.

Nurul Takwa Al-Qur’an education centre was built in early 2000 by local communities within and around Terantang Village to facilitate the growing need to learn religious studies. But as money was limited, construction of the school was not optimally finished. As a result, most of the infrastructure has decayed and broken down with time; the roof had started leaking, the paint was chipping, and the wooden walls had became porous from rain and termite. Furthermore, the high number of students had rendered the classes inadequate for learning due to overcrowding.

Since the education centre was not government owned, the school may not receive any subsidy or funding to fix and/or improve its structure.

Everything changed when Katingan Mentaya Project, in line with their sustainable development goals to improve public wellbeing and education, facilitated the renovation and expansion of Nurul Takwa Al-Qur’an education centre since late 2018. The renovation process is focused on repairing the damaged structure of the classes, while the expansion process is currently underway with construction of a new building that will add 2 new classes and will be opened for public by the end of August 2019.

Katingan Mentaya Project’s help and participation has greatly improved public wellbeing and education for local communities within and around Terantang Village. Now, students are able to learn comfortably and effectively without disruption.
