
Katingan Mentaya Project has organized a Snake Bite Emergency Training for First Aiders to increase preparedness from snake bite incidents in the field.
The Snake Bite Emergency Training is compulsary for Katingan Mentaya Project’s First Aiders to increase their preparedness from snake bite incidents in the field. The training is aimed to equip the First Aiders with the required skills to give first aid help for snake bite victims, given the number of mishandling of such incidents in past fieldwork activities. Furthermore, this training programme is part of Katingan Mentaya Project’s commitment in implementing OHS Management to better ensure the safety and health of employees, contractors, and guests alike.


The Snake Bite Emergency Training was attended by 20 First Aiders, chosen from a pool of KMP employees from each field departments. During the training, participants were taught to identify local snake species, recognize snake bite signs and symptoms, and responding to such incidents. Participants also received basic education on toxinology to better equip their understanding wildlife venoms, poisons, and toxins.
Creating a safe environment for employees and guests is a main concern for Katingan Mentaya Project given the risks of encountering potentially dangerous wildlife within the concession area. With the Snake Bite Emergency Training, KMP is commited to ensure that such safe environment is achievable by first forming a competent, experienced, and insightful team of First Aiders.
