Despite some restrictions COVID-19 has placed on our activities, we have not stopped nor frozen our efforts to protect the planet.
As the pandemic worsens, the rate at which this virus spreads has made Indonesia implement work from home and curfew regulations. Katingan Mentaya Project has also taken prompt decisions and introduced compulsory work-from-home programs in recent weeks in lieu of the COVID-19 spread. Despite some restrictions COVID-19 has placed on our activities, we have not stopped nor frozen our efforts to protect the planet. While the COVID-19 pandemic will eventually subside as a global threat, climate change will not. With that awareness, our conservation and monitoring efforts have continued to be carried out in our field office in Kalimantan while additional teams help communities around the concession area with their COVID-19 response.
Here are stories from some of our employees who are working from home and from the field about how they are coping and managing their work in these challenging times.
Igo (Regional Coordinator, Community Development Unit)
“Inevitably the way we work has to adapt during this pandemic. One important thing to remember is to not let this difficult situation affect our morale. We must stay positive. In our office in Sampit, Kalimantan, some meetings with villagers are not possible to be done online due to signal constraints. Thus why we still have to do face-to-face meetings but with extra attention to social distancing, mask wearing, and other health protocols. For me personally, making sure myself, my colleagues, and the community are healthy and safe is very important in this situation”.

Arwin (Section Head, Business Development Unit)
“Our busy schedule has not changed significantly, but now we have started to minimize our work in the field. Even in work, we continue to ensure personal hygiene by washing hands and wearing masks. In addition, we have also maximized social distancing by prohibiting handshakes and substituting it with alternative greetings. No need to worry too much, furthermore, the pandemic has not hindered KMP’s coordination and our conservation efforts will continue to be carried out as usual”.

Runi (Marketing Administration, Business Development Unit)
“Of course we must be more careful. As part of marketing, especially, we have to be more careful in meeting customers, following COVID-19 protocol, and maintaining hygiene at all times. In terms of workload, I meet with consumers more often now as online sales are increasing because more people are staying at home. To reduce the concern when delivering orders to consumers, I continue to pay attention to hygiene and social distancing. In addition, I also encourage consumers to make transactions through bank transfers to minimize exchanges through paper”.

Wimpi (HSE Specialist)
“Workload is arguably increasing significantly as now we have to create programs to prevent the spread of COVID-19 for local communities, such as programs regarding social distancing, the procurement of hand sanitizers, masks, spraying disinfectants, vitamins, and so on. I also have the responsibility to monitor staff who are unfit and provide management with regular reports. Therefore, our coordination has remained well, especially in our efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Finally, we must face this crisis calmly, patiently, and always optimistically. By promoting existing health protocols, I'm sure we are able to pass these trying times”.

Adis (Treasury, Finance Unit)
“Work From Home (WFH) may be one of the biggest changes as a result of COVID-19, but my work can still be done well from home and without difficulties in coordination between staff. In this situation, we must remain positive and not overburden ourselves from excessive stress and panic. To divert anxiety and worry, we can start by making our own schedule at home from waking up and until night, while filling our time with useful activities”.
