As Indonesia prepares for the upcoming dry season, PT Rimba Makmur Utama (RMU)-Katingan Mentaya Project is reinforcing frontline readiness through a Forest and Land Firefighting Skills Competition, held in collaboration with BPBD East Kotawaringin and Manggala Agni Daops Pangkalan Bun, Sampit Work Post.
The competition, organised as part of National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Month 2026, involved 52 personnel across nine teams representing RMU’s operational zones. More than a commemorative event, the initiative serves as a concrete step to strengthen early prevention capacity and climate risk preparedness within RMU’s ecosystem restoration concession.
As a PBPH Ecosystem Restoration permit holder, RMU plays a critical role in safeguarding peatland and forest landscapes from fire-related degradation, protecting biodiversity, carbon stocks, and surrounding communities.
Government partners participating as judges emphasized the importance of continuous skill enhancement, equipment standards, and inter-agency collaboration. The event also functioned as a practical evaluation platform to identify areas for improvement in response speed, technical handling, and storage systems.
Through strengthened collaboration between the private sector and government, RMU -Katingan Mentaya Project continues to advance integrated fire prevention efforts, supporting landscape protection, community safety, and long-term climate resilience.
